The Basque Affair Setting
"In the year 1999, Ambrisio Luis Monçada was destroyed by the Assamite Fatima al-Faqadi. His destruction left a power vacuum in Spain, with many Archbishop's vying to replace him. Top of the list is his childe, Ilgaria de la Heurta, Archbishop of the Basque Country in northern Spain, but several others deem themselves just as suitable.
However, the biggest threat to Spain isn't the internal power struggle. The biggest threat is the Camarilla. Kept at bay by Monçada's reputation, and Ilgaria's proximity to the French border, the Camarilla had been weary of pushing too far into Spain and an uneasy truce had developed.
With Monçada gone, the Camarilla have decided that they should control Spain.
Now Ilgaria is no fool. She has had agents close to the French border, in the city of Donostia-San Sebastian, for years. Watching, listening, preparing for the inevitable intrusions of the Camarilla. Most have been small raiding parties from young Camarillan's wanting to carve out their own land or groups dismissive of the Sabbat's power. Now, however, it is a more concerted effort. For this very reason, she ordered the creation of a new pack of cainite's who would be sent to San Sebastian to monitor and fortify the area, and defend against incursions. Despite the considerable strength of Bilbao and Ilgaria's subjects, secretly she knows she may already be too late. She has already lost touch with one of her agents in San Sebastian and the rest have not been next to useless. Why this is, she is unclear. However, she will not let her lands fall to anyone! The Camarilla will lose many before Spain falls."
